Write a post that describes a real world example of a perfectly competitive market.

  • Be specific about the good or service you are describing.
  • What makes this market perfectly competitive (use your textbook definition)?
  • Describe the firms who operate in this market. That is who are the competitors?
  • Are there any companies in this industry that can charge a price slightly above the competition?
  • Explain why you would be willing to purchase the good from whoever sells it for the cheapest, without any brand loyalty.
  • Your post should be 100-150 words

Example:The market for gold is perfectly competitive. There are many buyers and sellers and no buyer or seller is large enough to have any influence on the market price. If one gold miner (like the people on the TV show 'Gold Rush') try to sell their gold for a price that is above the market price, the buyer will not buy it and simply go to another seller who is selling gold at the market price. As a buyer, I can not tell, nor do I care, who mined the gold I am buying. I just care that it is real gold. Of course I would not want to buy gold that was mined using inhumane labor practices, but I also would not really be able to tell the difference once it is melted down into bullion.
