Writing Project and Presentation

PROJECT INFORMATION:

As a new manager, you will determine and justify a new product's cost in a decentralized organization and report your analysis to the owner.

Course objective(s) covered: 1,2,3, and 6:

1. Identify critical elements of managerial accounting, including job order and process costing

2. Identify characteristics of fixed and variable costs and their relationship to income

3. Describe the budget process and prepare a budget

6. Apply financial statement analysis techniques, including calculations of variances and differential analysis reports

REQUIREMENTS: Based on your readings, use of technology, literature, and other sources, do the following:

Select an existing company and give a brief description of the company of your choice

Identify a new product you want to develop a cost analysis for this company

State if you will be using job order of process costing for this new product and why this is appropriate for the product

Identify the fixed and variable costs associated with the product you have selected

Identify the various cost centers in the organization you have selected

In your analysis to the owner, you will also create an Excel spreadsheet as an exhibit to support your conclusions.

WRITING REQUIREMENTS: The paper's body should be 4-5 pages (not including title page, abstract, tables, charts, exhibits, or references).

This paper requires a minimum of three references: academic journals, professional journals, and appropriate authoritative references identified by the instructor.

Technology:

You will be using Excel to prepare your reports and calculations

You will be presenting your findings to the class the last week using some visual and audio presentation software.
