You and three students are part of a group in an entry level innovation class. One of the group members has been fermenting a business idea for years. She floats that idea to the group as a good topic for the group's quarter project. The idea is developed and refined by others in the group over the course of the quarter. At the end of the quarter, the students present their idea to a blue-ribbon panel of investors who unanimously approve of their idea and wish to fund it. The student with the original idea has secretly formed a company mid-quarter and transferred the intellectual property rights behind the idea to her own company. When the students toast their champagne glasses at the end of the quarter and start talking about forming a new company and leaving the school to run it, the original idea holder says "not so fast- that was my idea, my company owns it and you all have no rights to it."

Has a legal partnership been formed that gives the other students the rights to the idea? Please explain your answer.
