You are a chemical engineer at an Oil Refinery that is motor-gasoline focused. Your aim is to produce motor-gasoline that meets the below specifications (Table 1). More specifically, your job is to choose what materials to blend together in order to meet the specifications. Fortunately, and unfortunately, your work is part of a team. The blending components you have available are present in Table 2. Your colleague in the team have suggested to blend Butanes, LSR gasoline, Reformate and polymer gasoline (which means everything except the FCC gasoline) to produce the corresponding motor-gasoline. a) Make the necessary calculation for each specification of the blend suggested by your colleague. Show all your calculations in details. b) Based on the results obtained in part a, say whether the blend suggested by your colleague meets the specifications. If not, which specification is violated? If your colleague's blend does not meet all the specifications, what is the blending component (only one) that you would remove from the blend to substitute with FCC gasoline in order to meet the specification violated? Justify your choice. d) Without showing your calculations, specify which specification might be violated if you use FCC gasoline instead of the component you decided to remove in part c. (You can use an excel file to perform the calculation but you do not need to show the calculations here for this part)
