You are a twenty year veteran company level fire officer (Level I and/or Level II as identified in Table 2-3 of the course textbook [Lieutenant or Captain]) in a career fire department assigned to an Engine Company, in a single company fire house. You report to a Battalion Chief who is quartered at another station. The Battalion Chief is one of the most senior members of your organization and has been in the position for fifteen years. The organization embraces traditional fire prevention activities, but, is struggling to keep up with an ever increasing number of requests for services, while receiving few additional resources. As a result responses are increasing and additional stress is being placed on the organization. The driver/engineer assigned to the company is newly promoted with four years of seniority. The driver/engineer is aggressively perusing an Associate degree at Eastern Gateway Community College, and recently completed the FIR 104 Fire Prevention course. In this course the driver/engineer learned of the Community Risk Reduction concept and wants to apply those concepts to the department. The driver/engineer approaches you with a request to meet with the Battalion Chief to discuss how to best implement the Community Risk Reduction concepts.
