YOU are an advertising agent and a certain chain store wishes to hire you to manage their advertising campaign. Before you are given the job, however, the chain store's marketing manager wants to put you to the test and asks you to create a magazine advertisement for any one of the products his chain store sells.
The chain store has the following departments:
men's, women's and children's clothing, cosmetics, fragrances and jewellery, cell phones and tablets toys home dcor items
What you are required to do:
Select a single product that would be found in any of the departments listed above. Think carefully before making your selection. You must choose a product that a magazine WOUId be an appropriate advertising medium for.
i) Provide a description of your chosen product. (3)
2. Once you have selected your product, identify your target audience and then identify a magazine which is read by this target audience.
i) Describe your target audience. (5) ii) Name the magazine YOU have selected and explain the reasons for your choice. (4)
3. The next step is to compose your advertising message. Explain how the language you will be using is determined by:
The Target Audience
What style would be best formal, informal or colloquial?
What register (vocab) would be best simple or complex; plain language or jargon?

Would you write objectively or subjectively?
What tone (intensity of emotion) would you use?
i) Write notes describing the style, register, objectivity/subjectivity and tone you will be using to compose your advertising message. (10) ii) Write out your message. (10)
4. Compose your advertisement on a sheet of plain A4 paper.
i) This is the final version of the advertisement, including copy and graphics. (10)
5. Referring to your advertisement, explain how you aim to:
attract the reader's Attention
stimulate the reader's Interest
create a Desire for the product
motivate the reader to take Action and buy the product
i) Hand in your notes which explain how you have applied the AIDA formula. (8)
