You are an Occupational Rehabilitation Consultant working for an organization assisting clients who have a disability or a chronic health condition. In your role, you teach clients job-seeking skills and support them to (re)enter the work force. You have been referred a client, Saskia, who suffered a breakdown two years ago from working in a high-pressure job for a global retail company as their chief marketing officer. Your task is to develop a cover letter, resume and respond to key selection criteria for Saskia to use as an example for future roles she may apply for. Saskia's Personal and professional details Name: Saskia Schmidt Gender: Female Age 35 years old Country of birth: Germany Years lived in Australia: 20 years Languages spoken: English, German, Italian Ethnicity: Caucasian Marital Status: Married, 3 children Education: High School Certificate, 2008 Bachelor's degree in business - Melbourne University, 82% average. Hobbies: Saskia also enjoys playing basketball, watching Netflix, hiking, bike riding with her family. Job history details After some discussion with Saskia, you learn that she has had a long employment history but became burnt out in her last role as Chief Marketing Officer with 'Clothes-A-Plenty'. This role required her to work late most evenings, and on weekends, which restricted her spending time with her husband and three children. There were also frequent interstate and international travel commitments which further disrupted her family and social life. She worked in this position from 2018-2020 where she was responsible for developing novel and exciting promotions to sell new/current clothing lines. She also prepared strategic reports with other departments for senior leadership groups, maintained an awareness and implemented occupational, health and safety standards for employees in the marketing department. Due to her success in this role, in 2019 Saskia received SAGFA Industry award for Outstanding Innovation in Marketing and Business. At the time of her breakdown, the company was launching a new clothing line, which Saskia was head of distribution. The demands of the project led to Saskia being overworked, develop feelings of exhaustion and experience high levels of stress. Eventually, the job-pressure became excessive, and a work-colleague found Saskia sitting in her office, non-responsive, facing the window in a catatonic state. This led to hospitalisation and eventually a diagnosis of a major depressive episode with comorbid anxiety attributed to occupational burnout. Since this breakdown, Saskia has worked with doctors and psychologists to recover her mental health and develop positive self-efficacy coping strategies. After some time away from employment, Saskia feels she is ready to return to work in a different industry/occupation but is unsure where to begin. Saskia also reports that she has lost confidence when it comes to 'selling herself' and thinks this will not translate well on her resume when she is applying for jobs. Saskia tells you that over the past few years she has 'only' been at home, home-schooling her children during the Covid-19 lockdowns and assisting her husband to run the family business by doing his bookwork and invoicing. Due to her previous high powered job's, she sees this type of work menial and can't see that she has increased her transferable skills in the past few years at home.
