You are an RN working for a VA clinic in a big city. Part of your responsibility is to determine if the chronically ill patients seen in the clinic could be served by telemedicine services for basic health services. One of the patients, Larry, appears to be a perfect candidate for the telemedicine services. Larry lives about 20 miles from the clinic, but the drive from his home is routinely a minimum of 45 minutes due to traffic congestion. When the RN suggests the use of telemedicine services, Larry declines any opportunity to make use of the services. "I don't like this TV kind of medicine" he grumbles. He says he likes the drive and wants no part of telemedicine. The RN is conflicted since part of her responsibilities are to route routine care to telemedicine whenever medically appropriate.
