You are doing your placement at a settlement agency and you need to make a learning contract with 6 goals.

The information is as below:

  1. Consider your previous placement and volunteer experiences, and develop goals that expand your present skill and knowledge levels.

  1. Be realistic but ambitious about what you can achieve, as well as how you can accomplish them.

  1. Design SIX goal statements that are: clearly stated; achievable in the time frame of your placement; stated in positive terms (e.g. what you want to achieve, not what you don't want to happen); specific, with the skills and knowledge that you foresee developing and practicing.

  1. With your agency supervisor's guidance, consider all the necessary tasks that will be required in order to achieve your goals.

  1. Consider what evidence there will be to show the completion, or progress of your goal. In other words, the "indicators" are essentially what can you do/know now that you didn't before completion of the goal.

  1. Attach a realistic timeframe to each task listed and to the overall goal. When necessary, "on going" could be considered as the time frame.

  1. List your goals separately, with the tasks, the time frames, and the indicator following each goal.

here is an example:

  • To conduct assessment sessions independently (weeks 10-14)

I will be able to:

  • Book assmt. meetings with clients
  • Communicate comfortably with clients
  • Follow the assmt. format
  • Gain a sufficient understanding of their needs and circumstances to develop goals
