You are going to mapping out your wellness in that dimension. We will be using the socio-ecological framework as a guide for what to include on our map.

Your map will be an actual drawing (you may use powerpoint, Canva, Piktochart, or just old fashion paper & art supplies) to map out your journey.

You may represent your map/journey with whatever questions feel relevant to you. Please also make sure to include answers to the following questions in your map:

  • How far back does your journey begin?
  • What motivated you to pursue this journey?
  • Where are you now on your journey?
  • Who has helped you along the way? (Who have been your guides?)
  • What barriers have you faced?
  • What supports have you had along the way?

Including the Socio-ecological Framework

As part of your map I will also be asking you to include 1 factor at each of the 5 levels of the socio-ecological framework. These can be either barriers or supports - but I want you to map out your personal health journey in the context of your environment (interpersonal factors, organizational factors, community factors, and public policy factors).

As a reminder, here is the Socio-ecological framework.

When you are adding items/markers to your map you are welcome to add as many as you would like, but please make sure there is at least one marker at each of the 5 levels. You can think about:

Picture 1:

  • What is an individual level factor that influenced your journey in this specific dimension of wellness?
  • What is a relationship in your life that has influenced this dimension of wellness?
  • What is an organization that you were part of (maybe school or work) that has influenced your journey in this specific dimension of wellness?
  • What is a community that you are part of that has influenced your journey in this dimension of wellness?
  • And lastly, what is a policy that influenced your journey in this dimension of wellness?

Make sure to explain what each part of your map is. For example, if you drew a tree on your map that signifies when you learned about the importance of recycling, you can draw the tree, but also include a note of what the tree means to you. You can write this out on the map itself or include a separate key or legend that explains everything on your map.
