You are on duty at the centre. You have Samson, a new volunteer, and Francois, a workplace student, with you today.

A man called Raymond comes into the centre. You have seen him previously hanging around outside, but he has never come in before. You have a suspicion that he is an addict as you have seen him acting strangely and have heard visitors at the centre talk about his violent outbursts and his addiction. Some of them are quite frightened of him as they are worried he might try and steal their money or hurt them.

As you are walking down the hallway with Samson, you see Raymond in the lounge room holding a knife to the throat of one of your visitors, Georgia. You can hear him telling Francois that he doesn't want to hurt anybody but he needs money desperately. If Francois gives him whatever cash is in the office he will leave the girl alone and leave the centre.

The other centre visitors in the lounge room have stopped what they are doing and are just staring at Raymond - one of them, Maureen, starts screaming.

Raymond cannot see you as his back is towards you and you are a little way down the hallway but you can see everything that is unfolding

RAYMOND (Talking to you)

I wanted to talk to you because I'm annoyed with you, you know I've

seen you come in and out of this place the center and you go and call the cops on me all I needed was some cash that was it I didn't want to hurt anyone I said that you didn't need to call the police you know I'm just bad timed I'm facing

some bad times and no one seems to care not even you, you've seen me out the front they've all seen me, now I know what they say about me

yeah I just wanted some cash that was it all I wanted I didn't want to hurt him I

don't even know his name he's neither I haven't seen him here

before all that was in the needle was water that was it all right I just wanted the money didn't want anything else

and then you go and call the cops on me everyone else walks in here and you ask him for help yeah you offer him help all the time, me you walk past me every day I've seen you you know

yeah I get angry I get a bit violent sometimes too because it gets me what I want

and I didn't want to be here with the cops on my back right now

thanks to you they are when I get out

I'm gonna come right back here what are you gonna do then call cops again

huh

thought you were all about helping people huh

maybe you could try to help me but no didn't even want to talk to me just rang

the cops on me that was it you know

maybe if you spoke to me you don't you'd know what I was going through I just want some help I'm just trying to get some money for food you know

I just wanted some food and yeah all right maybe I would have gotten effects a little bit later on but you know, you haven't offered me anything at the center I thought it was a center for everyone just not me right,

you know I didn't mean to scare the kid or anyone else I don't want anyone to get hurt I don't know I've been doing it for a long time I started in my early 20s just to forget what a crap childhood I had

I just don't not

I just wanted some help you know just wanted some food just wanted to get my

face just went on the move on that was it just needed some money instead I'm

spending the night in the lockup you know

just wanted you to help me that was it
