You are on the ground belaying your friend on a mixed ice and rock climb. They are $75$ feet above you when a large chunk of ice releases, shatters, and pieces $$ some as large as golf balls $$ hit your helmet, shoulders, back, and the area surrounding you. You are able to maintain your position but your right shoulder is numb and is hard to move. Your arm feels bruised and you don't think you can continue belaying or climbing. You can feel blood running down your right arm. Calling up to your friend, you tell her you are hurt. She rappels down to you and examines you. Your helmet has a crack in the plastic outer shell, and your jacket has numerous cuts and tears from the ice. There is a three$-$inch laceration on your right forearm that is still bleeding.
