You are the Talent Acquisition (Recruitment) department for Mountain Bike Haven, a sporting good store that specializes in Mountain Bikes. The head office and Warehouse is in Toronto, with stores and smaller warehouses in Calgary and Vancouver. Business is picking up and you now need to hire more people. People may know the stores but are not familiar that there is a head office and warehouse. The head office and warehouse are located on a side street which is not very visible, however, there is a bus route that goes by so you know people can take the bus to work if needed.
There are currently 20 people who work in the warehouse and 10 people who work in the head office. In addition, there are dozens of staff who work in the stores across Canada. Some of the Junior staff are interested in advancing their careers and some of the store staff are waiting for an opportunity at the head office and warehouse.
You haven't had to hire in a while and for the most part, President Michael King was hiring his friend or friends of friends and never needed to post position or create a careers website but this pipeline has run out and now needs help from his Talent Acquisition Team.
As the Talent Acquisition team, you have to determine how to find suitable candidates for different roles. What methods would you use for the following situations? Why?
1. You need to hire 5 permanent warehouse workers who hold a forklift licence to keep up with the demands.
2. You need to have 10 temporary production workers at all times for the summer months (May- August)
3. The regular janitor is going on vacation for three weeks and you need someone to clean.
4. Your office assistant who manages all appointments and handles all filing in your office has the flu and won't be in the office for two days.
5. You will need to hire a General Manager and experienced sales staff for a store you plan to open in Utah. 6. Your only bike engineer is retiring and must be replaced with a highly skilled individual.
