You are the team lead for a very significant project that is quickly approaching the delivery deadline. Your team of five has been working reasonably well to date, but as the pressure of the final push is on, you've noted a couple of concerns. Jake is the technical expert on the project. Although the nature of this work is new to him, he has lots of previous experience trouble shooting and problem solving technical issues. Another team member, Sandy, came to you recently expressing frustration over Jake's constant talk about his expert ability and extensive previous experience, but notable lack of getting critical pieces of the project done by the team deadlines. Although Sandy acknowledged that they are all feeling stressed by the impending deadline, Jake went as far as intimating that his challenges were due to inefficiencies in the team, that if he had a group of men supporting him, things would be different - everyone knows that "men are simply better at the technical stuff". In addition, you've noticed that Beth has missed the past couple of meetings which is unusual for her. She is certainly very quiet and tends to listen carefully before speaking at meetings, but this absence is uncharacteristic based on her past performance. Sandy mentioned that she saw Jake and Beth having what appeared to be a heated discussion in the hall the other day, and suspects that Jake may have taken his frustration out on Beth. The other team members are aware of this rift, but feel that they are too busy and stressed themselves to get involved. Based on this update, you are now quite worried about your team's ability to complete the project by the deadline, knowing full well that defaulting on this commitment is not an option.
