You Chapter 2 Project - Survey Project Part 1
You will be conducting a survey and performing a statistical analysis. Focus your study on one specific question which asks "how much...?" or "how many...?".
o This will assure that you have quantitative data, NOT qualitative. You will use StatCrunch to create graphs and to do most of the calculations. The data you collect and use for chapter 2 will be used again in the chapter 6 and 7 projects.
o Make sure to follow the directions that are at the end of this project on how to save your data. Here are some parameters to follow when choosing a survey question.
Your study will focus on data collected from a real-world situation. Gather at least 50 pieces of data (your sample size must be at least 50).
oPlease note, failure to gather at least 50 pieces of data will result in a deduction of 1% for each piece of data below 50.
For example if you only submit a sample size of 40, then 10% will be deducted from your grade.
As mentioned above, your survey question should illicitquantitativedata and NOT qualitative data. There should be a wide range of possible answers to your question.
oFor example: If you were to ask people how many meals, they eat a day, the realistic answers are only 2, 3, or 4 (unless you are a hobbit).
oA different question should be chosen which would result in a larger range of possible answers, such as how many calories a day do you consume.
All (or almost all) of your data should be over 10.
oFor example: If you were to ask people how many pets they own and 45 out of 50 of the people in your sample respond with an answer that is under 10 pets.
oYou'll need to find a different question. oAgain, you need awide range of answers.

Part 1 Requirements
The first thing you need to do is enter the below information into the Chapter 2 project Part 1 Drop Box.I will approve the question, not approve the question or offer tweaks to the question.
oYou will be able to view my comments in the gradebook.
The approval is worth points, so be mindful of the due date on the calendar.
This is also a separate grade from the rest of the project (with a separate due date).
I will need the following:
1) Your potential survey question
2) A prediction of what you think the mean will be(make this an exact number, not an
interval).
3) The population from which you are sampling (Stark State students? Ohio residents? Females between the ages of 20 and 30? Employees with at least 1 year of experience?)
The prediction will be used when you get to the chapter 7 project.
I will write comments in the drop box and approve or disapprove your question and prediction.
Basically, I want to make sure you are on the right track.
It is possible I will have you tweak your question.
I may also ask you to come up with an entirely different question and prediction.
You will be able to view my comments in the gradebook.
oGo to the assignment in the gradebook. oClick on the comments bubble beside the grade.
Again, make sure to follow the parameters mentioned on the first and second page.
If you miss the due date to get your project question and prediction in, you will lose the points but will still need to get my approval. You will need to contact me through Course Messages in Blackboard.
Do not wait until the last minute to contact me.
If you go ahead with a survey question and prediction that is not appropriate for this survey, you may end
up with a zero for the entire project.
If you need to revise your question once the drop box has closed, then you will need to contact me via Course Messages in Blackboard.
Note: using a question that is not approved will result in at least a 30%
deduction for the project.
