a. draw a reaction mechanism showing how you could us an acid/base extraction to transfer to oleic acid to an aqueous layer. continue the reaction mechanism to show how this could be done as well.

 

b. if octanoic acid was being separated out of CCl4 instead of oleic acid would a higher or lower or equal number of extractions need to be done to achieve the same level of extraction as the oleic acid out of CCl4? why?

 

c. why not just do liquid/liquid extraction with CCl4 and hexane?
