You have been approved by the board for promotion from the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position, congratulations! During your tenor as COO, you were engrossed with the day-to-day operations of the company. This involved an intimacy with the connectivity and collaboration between departments, divisions, management, etc. Now as CEO, your main function is to ensure the viability of the entire organization today, and for the foreseeable future.
Apparently, the organization has been losing market-share steadily for the past year. The company has been tightening their belt so-to-speak in an effort to mitigate the downturn in financial performance that is directly related to loss of market-share; sales performance is low and is a vital key performance indicator (KPI). Subsequently, this has caused great unrest amongst the workforce at all levels. Employees have not been motivated to perform and the corporate culture has shifted from an energetic and productive profile, to a more precarious and docile one. Interestingly, some of the most productive employees have been leaving the company due to this unrest; this phenomenon is commonly referred to as the "talent paradoxâ.
Your first order of business is to understand the organization from a behavioral perspective, so that you may implement some initiatives to motivate and promote the workforce back to its productive state. Develop a plan that does the following:
·Identify some important aspects of organizational behavior as it relates to the current-state of the company
·Identify organizational behavior problems and formulate ethical approaches to eliminate them
·Develop a decision-making process that is ethical and contributes to a positive corporate culture
·Identify organizational constraints that may prohibit the facilitation of solutions to organizational behavior problems
·Introduce organizational behavior theories that can be used to get the company moving in the right direction
·Discuss and introduce problem-solving measures that integrate theories and concepts of organizational behavior.
