You have been asked to design a production line to manufacture a new product. At this stage of product development there is very little detailed information available on paper so you must find out as much as you can about the product in order to allow you to design a suitable production line to make the product. - You are to explain your approach/methodology used in designing the production system. 5 marks - What information will you need? Where will you get it? 5 marks - What kind of production systems will you consider: depending on product volume requirements? You must produce at least two production designs for different volume forecasts (Medium and High) and explain how each design works. 16 marks - Specify any assumptions that you make with regards to sales volumes, automation, technology used, etc., in the layout design. 4 marks In your answer you should refer to: Product/Process matrix, PQRST approach to layouts, Lean design, Type of process used, product or process layouts
