You have been provided with a dataset named "NHIS.2021.Dataset". This dataset contains data collected by the CDC's National Health Survey which is the principal source of information on the health of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States . You can find out more about this Survey at:https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhis/index.htm . The codebook for this survey can be found at the following link:https://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/Health_Statistics/NCHS/Dataset_Documentation/NHIS/2021/adult-codebook.pdf . The codebook describes how each variable was coded in the dataset.

The dataset is already clean. You will only be working the following variables: SCHDYMSSTC_A, COVER_A, AGEP_A, WEIGHTLBTC_A, HEIGHTTC_A, HRSPERWK, DIVBEV_A and any variables you are asked to create, but you do not need to take the others out of the dataset. Please do not submit a dataset with your homework; submit only a WORD document with your responses and any output for which I have specifically asked.

Please use this data to answer the following questions:

1. On average, how many days of work did respondents to the survey miss due to illness or injury in the past twelve months? Please provide the statistic for the average and a statistic that measures how far spread out the data is.

2. Investigate whether health insurance coverage (defined as: uninsured, private, public coverage including Medicaid, or other coverage) differs according to age in those aged 18 to 64 years. Hint: SPSS will not include those with data coded as "Missing" in the analysis if it is using the variable for which the values are coded as "Missing". D0 this by providing the following:

a. Describe the distribution of health insurance coverage in people aged 18 to 64 years? Please provide statistics that describe this distribution for this population.

b. What is the average age of those with each type of health insurance coverage?

c. Could the observed differences in the average age of those with each type of health insurance coverage be due to chance? Please provide the following:

  • What test did you do to investigate this?
  • Is there a significant difference in age between the groups? How do you know?
  • How many comparisons have been made?
  • Which groups are statistically the same and which groups are different?

3. It is believed that weight and height are related to each other. Please answer the following using this dataset:

a. If you only had the variable "WEIGHTLBTC_A", how could you predict the weight of the next person who the study collected data on? Please explain in one sentence and give the predicted weight.

b. Determine if the variable on the participants' height "HEIGHTTC_A" help to predict the weight of the next person who the study collected data on and state whether or not adding height helps you predict weight.

If not answer the following:

  • What did you do to determine this? Please answer in thr33 to fou r sentences maximum. Be sure to give specific statistics and use statistical terminology in your response.

If it does, answer the following:

  • How did you determine this?
  • How much error did height eliminate?
  • Write the equation for the model.
  • Interpret the model
  • Predict the weight of a person with a height of 5 feet and 9.5 inches.

4. This question is intended for you to practice using your analytic skills in the way you might need to do once you leave this class.

  1. Please cre@te a variable for BMI using the values for the variables "WEIGHTLBTC_A" and "HEIGHTTC_A". The video at the link below will show you how to d0 this.

SPSS - Compute Variable (BMI Example)

Next, cre@te a variable for categories of BMI using the "standard weight status categories used by the CDC which can be found here: CDC.Healthy Weight, Nutrition and Physical Activity. A video on how to create categories from a "scale" variable in SPSS can be found here :Recode scale variable into categories in SPSS

Please cre@te a frequency table and one appropriate chart of BMI by category in SPSS and paste into your Homework document.

  1. The variable "HRSPERWK" represents the average number of hours each participant works each week. Those who do not work are coded as 0 hours per week. Among those who work please investigate the following:

  • Does the average number of hours worked per week by participants in this sample vary according to standard category of BMI?
  • Does the average number of hours worked per week in this study sample vary by diabetes status?
  • Is the average number of hours worked per week by participants in this sample by diabetes status modified by standard category of BMI? In other words, is there evidence of interaction between BMI category and diabetes status on the average number of hours worked per week?
  • Please use only those participants who report workingin your analysis. Hint:There are more than one way to d0 this but know that SPSS will drop anyone with missing values for any of the variables you use from the analysis.
  • Please provide the following only on your Homework responses:
    • The test you will use
    • The hypothesis(es) you will be testing
    • The p-values for the tests
    • A one sentence conclusion for each hypothesis you have tested.
