You have hundreds of skills, abilities, and personal traits that make you an effective leader. Some of your skills and abilities are more highly developed than others. You probably enjoy using some skills and traits more than you enjoy using others. This exercise will help you identify your preferred skills by completing this four-step process. 1. In an excel spreadsheet (or piece of paper), write down four to six of what you believe are your accomplishments horizontally across the top of your spreadsheet (e.g. organized a softball tournament; made the dean's list; served as an officer of the Drexel Sport Management Council). Each accomplishment should be in an individual column. Your accomplishments can be anything that you are proud to have participated in such as extracurricular activities, employment achievements, or leisure pursuits. 2. Under each accomplishment, in a separate row, describe several skills (e.g. communicated persuasively; selling; organizing; teambuilding; planning; computer skills) and multiple personality traits (e.g. leadership; innovation; courage; responsibility; loyalty; calmness) that you used for the endeavor. 3. Circle or otherwise highlight (e.g. bold or highlight function if you are using Excel) the skills and traits that are used most frequently on your document. Do you notice any patterns? If so, please discuss. What skills and traits do you excel at? What skills do you enjoy using? 4. At the bottom of your spreadsheet or paper, rank your skills and traits in an order of priority that appeals to you. Remember, ranking will help you to identify and define the work tasks and responsibilities that you would like to be involved with in your future career as a sport administrator. General directions: You may use a computer or do the assignment on a piece of paper. Just upload a picture of your work if you choose to write it out (e.g. a scan or a picture using your smartphone)
