To conduct your study, you will first have all students read 15 written pages and record the time it takes them to finish. All students will read the same material. You then pair up each student based on how fast they read this initial practice reading by pairing the two fastest readers together, then next two fastest readers together, and so forth until all students are paired. You will then flip a coin for each pair and assign one subject to a group to will be taught the new reading strategy and practice with it for 30 minutes. The other from each pair will be given no new instructions. After 30 minutes all subjects will read another 15 written pages and you will record the time it takes them to finish. This will be a new, but equally difficult, reading as the initial one. All subjects will read the same material. The mean time it takes a high school-aged student to read 15 written pages is u=19.7 minutes with a standard deviation of o= 5.21 minutes. On the second reading passage, the mean time it took the 20 subjects who were taught the new reading strategy was 16.3 minutes and the mean time it took the 20 subjects who were not taught the new strategy was 18.9 minutes. 1) Other than randomization, state and describe 3 ways in which this experiment has been controlled.
