You learned to use ArcCatalog Q1: What is ArcCatalog? When you opened your project map in chapter 3a (ex03 a mxd), it brought up 4 layers. The 2 important layers it brought up were cities & countries 02: Where are the map files called cities and countries located on your computer? Example: C Program files penguinsareawesome butdogsarebetter maps Chapter3 Complete the path for your map files: L: You became familiar with 3 different file types: * shp, lyr & *gdb The layer file controls all of the display characteristics of features on the map For example: if a line on one of the layers of the map is blue in color and thick, it is the layer file that defines that. The layer file does not itself contain the line's geographic data. It looks at a secondary file to get that. That is why you see file names occur in pairs (example : flight path shp & flight_path.lyr). A layer file is therefore a great way to preserve symbology in various layers in your map project. 03: The Geodatabase (called World.gdb) contains 4 database tables. Name them. Exercise 4b You created a new frame and added data to it by dragging it in from AreCatalog or the search window. One of the layers you added was called Countries (from the Countries feature class). 04: Is this a vector or a raster map? How do you know? Q5: This exercise described yet another way to zoom.
