You read about reporting systems, managers as ethical leaders, and approaches to ethically engage and empower employees. This case presents an overview of Uber and its culture and one whistleblower's account of sexual harassment and her experience reporting it. It then examines Uber's response after the allegations and the changes in the organization and public policy brought about in relation to it. We then examine research about internal reporting systems, sexual harassment reporting, consequences to victims, employee silence, and preventative approaches. Using an actual organizational event as the basis for this case, consider the core concepts to examine some of the challenges and barriers to applying them in practice: 1. Identify the failure points of the company's internal reporting system for sexual harassment. 2. Consider why managers and human resource (HR) professionals may not have acted as moral managers. 3. Examine why employees may not have felt empowered to act. 4. Propose suggestions to overcome challenges in internal reporting systems
