You start a small company for extracting oil from chia seeds using a multi-stage process. Finely-ground chia seeds containing 13 weight % oil and 87 weight \% solids are fed to an extractor tank where it is mixed with liquid hexane. For every kg of seeds, 3kg of hexane is used. All the oil in the seeds is extracted into hexane in this process. The entire effluent from the extractor passes into a filtration unit where the solids are separated into a waste stream and discarded while the product stream containing only oil and hexane is further processed. The waste stream leaving the filter contains 75 weight\% solids. The filtration unit is operated such that the ratio of oil to hexane in the stream entering the filter is the same as it is in the waste stream leaving the filter. The liquid filtrate product stream is fed into a heated evaporator in which all the hexane is vaporized. The oil does not vaporize under these conditions and is recovered as liquid. A. Using a fully labeled flowchart of the process, carry out DOF analysis to identify a solution strategy (i.e., the order in which you would solve the different systems) B. Calculate the process yield ( kg oil recovered /kg chia seeds fed) C. Despite a booming market for chia oil, you observe that your company is not making sufficient profits. Give two possible reasons
