You will advance a discussion paper (3 single-spaced pages) drawing upon a recent online news article to illustrate how international law has been misunderstood and/or misused in media coverage of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The paper is expected to: identify the mischaracterization of the law (whether by the writer of the article or by someone cited therein); outline the correct legal principle(s); and discuss the implications of the legal mischaracterization for readers. The paper may address mischaracterizations of jus ad bellum and/or jus in bello principles. However, it must be self-contained - for instance, it must not require cross-reference to the underlying news article to understand - and clearly and concisely address the three separate issues noted above.
