You will be teaching English to employees of the Mazda Corporation in Hiroshima, Japan. You do not know much about their company or what positions they may hold. What is the best way to find out more information so that your students are not offended by your unfamiliarity with their workplace?

a.Do not ask your students about their professions. The Japanese culture is very discreet about professions and the students may feel it is rude to enquire about their jobs.

b.Pull a few trustworthy students aside and ask them questions about what all the other students' jobs are.

c.Look on the company website to find up-to-date information about the company which will give you some insight into what type of questions would be relevant for you to ask, then hold a question and answer session where you can ask your students questions about their roles and responsibilities within the company. By doing this you will demonstrate an interest in your students and their company.

d.Spend your first few sessions with the class having them take you on tours of the plant. This will give you a hands-on look at the work they do and will be a fun break from the classroom. You can prepare relevant questions to ask on the tour by examining the company website beforehand.
