Computer Programming majors

Your project must be a computer application or$,$ at least, a functional prototype. Your project could be a stand$-$alone Java$/$C$++/$Visual Basic program, a mobile app, video game, etc.

You may also use this opportunity to learn a new programming language; You will still need to develop a computer application using that language.

Below this post is the project of a computer programming major from last semester. This is level of quality and effort I$\text{'}$m looking for.

Database Design majors

Your project must involve an implementation of a database. If you aren't comfortable implementing a database with other programming languages, I would recommend using MS Access for the ease of creating forms. Database Design majors in the past have typically created some kind of inventory or scheduling system.

Computer Applications majors

Your project must involve the design of a new computer application; A working program is not required as programming courses are not part of your curriculum. Your project should detail how this new application would work and include sketches$/$photoshops of any user interfaces.

Below this post is the project of a student from a few years ago. They used their experience as a casino cocktail server to design a mobile application for ordering drinks from a slot machine.

Computer Systems Support majors

I realize CSS majors have varied interests $($hardware$/$software$/$networks$/$security$),$ so there isn't a one$-$size$-$fits$-$all project here. Often, CSS majors decide to write a technical paper or conduct experiments with different hardware configurations.

Alternatively, you could use this opportunity to become familiar with the Linux operating system, if you aren't already. Linux administration skills$/$experience are in demand.

Your project would need to go beyond simply becoming familiar with a distribution of Linux, however. Your project could involve using Linux to:

Set up a software firewall and$/$or intrusion detection system.

Set up a web server and$/$or email server.

Set up file sharing$/$user management between a Windows computer and a Linux computer.

If you really want to learn Linux inside and out, you can complete Linux From Scratch which teaches you how to compile the Linux operating system from the source code up$.($No programming experience is needed to do this, but some prior Linux experience is ideal$).$

If you are majoring in two or more of the above, you may:

Concentrate on one area$/$major in your project, or

Incorportate facets of each of your majors in your project.
