Every April, The Masters one of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the PGA Tour is played in Augusta, GA. In 2019, 61 players received prize money. The 2019 winner, Tiger Woods, earned a prize of $2.07 million, while Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, and Brooks Koepka shared second place each earning $858,667. Additionally, four amateur players finished in the money, however were unable to accept due to their amateur status. They are excluded from the data. Use the dataset entitled PGA Masters Earnings to answer the below questions. This dataset contains information on players finishing positions, score, and prize money (in $). a. (3 points) Determine and interpret the correlation coefficient between score and prize. Does it surprise you that the correlation coefficient is negative? Why? b. (3 points) Determine the regression coefficients and express the regression equation mathematically. c. (3 points) On average, if a players score increases by one, how do their earnings change? d. (3 points) Estimate a players prize if they shot a score of 279. e. (3 points) What might be another variable that could be included to help predict a players prize money? (HINT: In part (e), I am asking to come up with another quantitative factor that may impact a player's performance, and thus prize money. As an example (that you cannot use in your assignment), we could imagine that the number of hours an athlete rested the night before may be an important factor in performance. An athlete who slept for 8 hours the night before vs. an athlete who only slept for 2 may perform better, and thus receive more prize money. Be creative in your responses! The factor may be important, or it may not be - that is why we collect the data and run regression analysis - let the data tell us which factors are important ("data driven" approaches)!)
