You will need to use an Ubuntu 18.04 VM for this Lab. We did an earlier lecture where we built a VM with this operating system and hopefully that is still available. If not, go to ubuntu.com and download an ISO file for installation. Create a new Virtual Machine using VirtualBox and follow the instructions in the installation. Open a terminal by clicking on the "nine dots" in the bottom left corner and selecting "Terminal" A terminal program gives us access to a "shell on the system that allows us to enter commands. A terminal allows you to enter a command, press the "Enter" key, and to get some information back. You need to use the Terminal for the following questions 1. How many user accounts are on your system? On a Linux system, the /etc/passwd file has a list of user accounts on the system. We can use the "cat" command to read a file. Use the "cat" command to read the /etc/passwd file cat /etc/passwd This will output the file which has one user account per line. How many user accounts are on the system? a. b. Using the "which" command, what is the full path of the "cat" commandi? c. Which standard input or output channel does "cat" send the output to? 2. The "man" command, short for "manual", allows us to find information about different parts of the system. We can use the "man" command to view information about the /etc/passwd file by running the following man-s5 passwd
