You will obtain your numerical answer using Excel and then compare and interpret the results in text format. This is expected to be a minimum of 500 words, references and solid academic writing. HOW TO: Imagine that you are working in a public health facility and you have been asked to analyze this data for someone. What does it MEAN? What can you tell your supervisor about what this data means about BMI variations between men and women? What does this mean for the BMI of the sample set? Etc. DO NOT include any figures or tables... only sentences and paragraphs with citations/references. This report IS NOT about how you did your homework assignment. QUESTION For week 4: Your main topic of your 500 word (minimum) paper is the obesity epidemic... and how your research study population for your specific location looks (in terms of BMI and obesity) and then how they compare to national data. The nation provides standards of BMI intervals that determine normal range or obese range... etc. You should be comparing your interval to the standard intervals. Don't forget your in-text citations and reference list. Only list references that you cited. NOTE: Only the interval numbers should be stated in your report... do not state any other numbers that come from your results in Excel... the only exception would be if you wanted to include mean and standard deviation. Not including the relevant numbers and explaining what they mean or including numbers other than the ones approved will result in a lower score. THE CONFIDENCE INTERVAL IS WHAT ONE OF YOUR TUTORS ANSWERED . I ONLY NEED ANSWER OF THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC AND ONLY 500 WORD. 1. Construct a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for men. Confidence interval is given by The mean of BMI values for males = 25.9975. The standard deviation of BMI values for males = 3.4307. The sample size is 40. For a 99% confidence interval, the critical value of z is given by the excel function NORMSINV(0.01/2) = 2.5758. Standard error of mean = standard deviation/ sqrt(sample size) = 3.4307/sqrt(40) = 0.54. Margin of error = critical value of z*Standard error of mean = 2.5758 * 0.54 = 1.3909. So, the lower limit of a99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for males is: = 25.9975 - 2.5758*3.4307/sqrt(40) =24.6066 The upper limit of a99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for males is: = 25.9975 + 2.5758*3.4307/sqrt(40) =27.3884 Hence, a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for males is (24.6066, 27.3884). This implies that I am 99% confident that my estimates mean body mass index for males lies in this interval. 1) Construct a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for women. Confidence interval is given by The mean of BMI values for females = 25.74. The standard deviation of BMI values for females = 6.1656. The sample size is 40. For a 99% confidence interval, the critical value of z is given by the excel function NORMSINV(0.01/2) = 2.5758. So, the lower limit of a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for females is: = 25.74 - 2.5758*6.1656/sqrt(40) =23.2289. The upper limit of a99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for females is: = 25.74 + 2.5758*6.1656/sqrt(40) =28.2511 Hence, a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean body mass index for females is (23.2289, 28.2511). This implies that I am 99% confident that my estimates mean body mass index for females lies in this interval. 2) Compare and interpret the results. It is known that men have a mean weight that is greater than the mean weight for women, and the mean height of men is greater than the mean height of women, but do men also have a mean body mass index that is greater > than the mean body mass index of women? To test if the BMI of male is greater than female we have to use T-test for difference in means. Null hypothesis H0: BMI of male = BMI of female. Alternate hypothesis, H1: BMI of male > BMI of female. For testing difference in mean we will have to conduct 1 tail t test for difference in mean. BMI for Males Mean Variance Observations Pearson Correlation Hypothesized Mean Difference df BMI for Females 25.9975 25.74 11.76999359 38.01425641 40 40 -0.064993278 0 39 t Stat 0.224692134 P(T<=t) one-tail 0.411695951 t Critical one-tail 1.684875122 Since, p-value = 0.411, which is greater than alpha (0.05), I fail to reject null hypothesis at 5% level of significance and conclude that there is no significant difference between BMI of males and females. Obesity Epidemic Now a day, obesity becomes a national issue all over the world. It was observed that the obesity is increased in adults as well as in children. The proportion of obesity people is increasing continuously all over the world. Most of the expert agrees that the obesity is the main reason for the different types of disease such as cancer, heart attack, diabetes etc. Also, a person with obesity problem becomes sick and it is main reason behind most of diseases. There are two main reasons behind the obesity, the first reason is to eat so much and second is to exercise very less. If the woman has the obesity problem, then there are lots of problems evolved during the pregnancy period of the woman. According to some experts, there is one of the reason behind obesity is nothing but the genetic problem. But it is not true overall because there are so many examples that have an obesity problem but their parents or grandparents don't any obesity problem. We have to study this obesity problem with the help of some statistical analysis. Let us see this statistical analysis in detail given as below: The body mass index plays an important role in the study of obesity epidemic. It was found that the average body mass index for the males is found as (24.6066, 27.3884) at 1% of level of significance. Also, it was observed that the average body mass index for the females is found as (23.2289, 28.2511). That is, there is high variation in female for the obesity problem. The average BMI for the males is observed as 25.9975 while the average BMI for the females is observed as 25.74. From the study, at the 5% level of significance, it was observed that there is no significant difference between BMI of males and females. As we know that the BMI is based on the height and weight. If the BMI is less than 18.5, then it is considered as the underweight and if the BMI is more than 25, then it is considered as overweight. If the BMI is lies between the values 18.5 to 24.9, then it is considered as healthy weight. If the BMI is greater than 30, then the person is said to have an obesity problem. If we compare the confidence interval for the male with the standard national values then it is observed that there is an increase in the obesity problem in males. Also, if we compare the confidence interval for the females with the national standard values, then it is observed that there is an increment in the obesity level of the females. If we compared the confidence intervals for the male and female, there is a very less difference observed in this confidence interval for the BMI for male and females. In overall conclusion, we can say that the problem of obesity is in growing state in many parts of the world and it is required to maintain the public health and government agencies should keep attention on the public health. Also, to provide the education to the people for maintaining good health is necessary for less down the obesity
