You work for an engineering consulting company and a convenience store chain, which has approximately 100 stores in the surrounding area, has come to you with 2 problems they would like you and your team to solve. As a service to their customers, this convenience store chain produces hot and ready items for purchase (i.e. Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuits, Chicken Sandwiches, etc.). Each item that is produced can only sit in the heat racks for a specific amount of time before they spoil and must be thrown away. Recently, the convenience store feels like they have been wasting an excessive amount of food. They would like to minimize the amount of waste they dispose of while at the same time, ensuring that there is always items on hand for purchase. In addition, the convenience store feels like their scheduling of when to cook items is wasteful because the worker(s) are constantly having to be interrupted to cook new items. Thus, the convenience store would like a new schedule created for their employee(s) to follow that minimizes the amount of time the employees spend in the kitchen cooking items but at the same time ensuring that they meet the requirement that there are always items stocked to be sold. The following is a list of the Excel sheets and tabs that contain the data given to you by the convenience store. Document Title Tab Title Description Demand Data 01-20-2014 thru 02-08-2014 Demand of each item broken down by day and hour for each store 02-09-2014 thru 02-28-2014 Demand of each item broken down by day and hour for each store 03-01-2014 thru 03-20-2014 Demand of each item broken down by day and hour for each store Misc Data Item BOM Provides a breakdown of the each sellable item into its components as well as the batch size for oven cooking, cook time, cook temp, final batch time, and shelf life Cook and Oven Temps Provides a breakdown of the cook time and temp for the individual items Shelf Life Provides the shelf life for each sellable item Cook and Assembly Time Provides different process times for each item. The convenience store has requested that your deliverable be written in a report format with the following criteria: Written report (7-10 pages) o Cover Page (not included in total page count) o Executive summary (no more than 500 words, on its own page) o Supporting Material Methodology Results Discussion Conclusion o Single space, 1 margins, 11 or 12 font, Calibri or Times New Roman preferred. o Please submit at a .docx format. Hints, comments, etc. I am not as concerned with what your answer is. In fact, I do not even expect you to completely solve this problem due to the vast amount of calculation that would be required. What I want to see and for you to explain is how you came up with your methodology, how you tested your methodology, and why you believe your method is the best method. Thus, I expect these explanations to be reported in the Methodology, Results, and Discussion section respectively. The convenience store only provided you data for 2 stores but remember that your method for solving the problem must be able to be applied to all stores. Other than what has been written within this document and provided in the supporting Excel sheets, the Convenience store has not provided any more information. If you have to make any assumptions, be sure to state them in the report You can present any Output from any software you may use in an appendix (pages not included in your 7-10 pages), however, you MUST explain it somewhere within the body of your report and reference that it is in the appendix Any graph, chart, table without a title and a description in the body of work is useless. Assessment will consist of 3 components 1. 25% Grammar, spelling, and format 2. 50% Logical methodology and descriptive explanation and discussion 3. 25% Correct formulation and solving of your test of your methodology
