Background: The client and I have agreed that we will work with him on a general retainer basis, meaning that as his legal issues come in I will decide whether or not we will be taking the case. So, in this case the scope of representation are legal services on an as needed basis with a referral option available for cases that the attorney cannot meet the minimum standard of representation for. I have discussed the fee agreement with the client and the client and I have agreed to a fee of $200 per hour for attorney work and $100 an hour for paralegal work. As for the firm's expectations of the client, I will leave that up to you. At a minimum, I want the letter to advise the client that for continued representation he will have to keep the firm informed of any address or phone number changes, process and return documents in a reasonable time, maintain communication with the firm such as answering the phone and returning emails, and keep appointment times. Its possible to add more expectations for the client, if wished, which will inform the client of what is expected of him in order to make our job easier.
