Your boss has asked you to evaluate the results from two pilot studies examining the relationship between a 16 hour employee training program in self-actualization (i.e. confidence and personal fulfillment) and employee performance rating. The theory is that the self-actualization training will improve the employee's ability to work efficiently and work in teams, and that these factor lead to gains in observed performance.
See Table 1 for analysis. Study A was done on 50 new (less than 6 months at firm) employees in the managerial or clerical tracks, and treatment (training) was randomized. Those not selected for the treatment were promised that they would have the opportunity at a later date.
After Study A concluded, Study B was then run and opened to the entire company. Among those who volunteered, 250 were randomly selected, and each of those were allowed to self-select into training or no-training. Those who opted out of training were promised that they would have the opportunity again at a later date.
Variables:
? Performance: supervisor assigned performance rating 3 months after the study. 0-100 scale.
? Training: 1= participant in self-actualization training. ~50% in each study.
? Tenure: years with firm. Not collected for study A.
? Clerical: 1=clerical track employee. 0=managerial track employee. Not collected for study A.
