Your company produces headbands and wristbands for athletes. Each can be either all cotton or a mix of cotton and 10% spandex. You have promised local retailers to supply a minimum of 200 all cotton headbands, 160 blended headbands, 300 all cotton wristbands, and 140 blended wristbands. Headbands sell for $14.99 each and wristbands sell for $9.99 each, regardless of the resources used to make them. Your fabric supplier has 90 yards of cotton which is $6.25/ yard and 20 yards of spandex which is $8.90/ yard. A headband requires .15 yards of fabric, and a wristband requires .08 yards of fabric. Your goal is to find the production plan that will maximize your profit. Of the two resources, which one(s) would you want to acquire more of, if you could? What would be the maximum price you would be willing to pay for an additional yard of Cotton, and for an additional yard of Spandex ? Suppose you can buy extra Cotton at 18/yard, and extra Spandex at $12/yard. How many extra yards would you purchase of each resource, and what would be the impact on your total profit?
