Your last job interview is with I Eat Bugs, Inc., a leader in the bug extermination business. The position for which you are interviewing is marketing vice president. The person interviewing you has just finished describing the history of IEB. Yes, he says, IEB was just a local firm in More Geese, Kentucky (population: 1,567) when it was founded by Grant and Melba Throckmorten in 1985. Since that time, IEB has grown to the point that is has offices in 1,645 cities throughout the United States and Europe. Now, not only do we eat bugs in individual homes, but we have a growing business in extermination in commercial and restaurant facilities. Mr. Throckmortens secret I Eat Bugs formula has also been successfully sold through retailers as the IEB brand of bug killing sprays. IEB is currently considering expansion to South Texas and South America (killer bees, you know) and bringing out a new line of even more potent bug sprayers for the home. And the amazing thing is that Grant and Melba still operate their business as if it were a small company in More Geese, Kentucky. Melba, particularly, is involved in almost every decision in the company, and we all look to Grant for the inspirational leadership that only a Throckmorten can give.(As he says this, the interviewers eyes begin to mist over.) In your view, what kinds of problems is a company like IEB likely to experience?
