14. An Alternative Test Procedure Consider the following approach as an alternative to using the F-test for investigating differences among four treatment means.

Examine the data and select the largest and smallest treatment means and then use a Student’s t-test to compare these two means. If there is evidence to indicate a significant difference exists between these two means, then certainly there is a significant difference among the four means. Explain why this is or is not a valid test for differences among means.
