Companies use logos to aid customers in identifying their brand and/or product. Can logo descriptiveness influence brand
Question:
Companies use logos to aid customers in identifying their brand and/or product. Can logo descriptiveness influence brand authenticity? This was the research question of interest in an article published in the Journal of Marketing Research (October 2019). The researchers recruited 180 individuals to participate in the study. The experiment involved two factors, each at two levels: Logo design (descriptive or not) and Brand (basketball equipment manufacturer or running shoe brand). Participants were randomly assigned to view one of the 2 * 2 = 4 logo/brand treatments. After participants saw their assigned logo, they rated the extent to which it elicited impressions that the brand was authentic on three 9-point scales presented in a random order (authentic, trustworthy, and credible), where a rating of 1 = “not at all” and a rating of 9 = “very.” The dependent variable in the study was the average of the three ratings. The data (simulated from information provided in the study) are saved in the file. Conduct an analysis of variance of the data. What is the impact of logo design on mean authenticity rating? Does the impact of logo design depend on brand?
