5. One way to make ethical decisions is to ensure that your decisions follow your organization’s code of ethics. In this exercise, you will develop an example of such a decision.

As a team, agree on a code of ethics to study. You can choose an organization that interests you and visit its website to look for a code of ethics or a values statement. Or you can use the hyperlinks in “The Index of Codes,” published online by the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (http://ethics.

iit.edu/ecodes/). Another option is to use Johnson & Johnson’s credo in Figure 4.2.

Choose one of the principles in the code of ethics. Prepare a skit that illustrates that principle. Your skit should be about a workplace dilemma involving your chosen principle, showing how the people in the skit resolve the dilemma. If you can, base your skit on a work-related situation that at least one of your team members has experienced.

The teams will then take turns presenting their skits to the whole class. Have the class try to identify the ethical principle each skit illustrates. Finally, the class should vote on whether the solution presented in the skit actually follows the principle from the code of ethics.
