9. Divide the class into teams of five or more students. Each student receives a card marked with the type of power he or she possesses: legitimate, referent, expert, coercive, reward, connection, or information. (If the group is small, some students may have two types of power.) Students should not show other team members which card they have. Each team has a goal: to convince the rest of the class that changing something

(for example, holding class in the evening instead of the afternoon) is a good idea.

Using the different kinds of power, each team presents its idea to the class. Afterward, the class should discuss how effective each team was, how effective individual team members were, and what type of power was most effective in getting people to respond positively to the idea of change.
