Many organizations have implemented a company intranet. But it appears that relatively few (at least as of this date) have integrated their intranet with desktop productivity tools, such as Microsoft Office, e-mail and calendaring, and the specific data input/output applications used by employees.

a. Contact several local private- and public-sector organizations. Do they currently have an intranet implemented?

b. Describe how the intranets are being used and what features they have. Are any of these intranets integrated with desktop productivity tools and/or applications used by the organization?

c. See if you can take a look at several of these intranets. Are their interface screens well designed? What, if any, are the differences between intranets and Internet applications that need to be taken into consideration when designing the screen interfaces for an intranet?

d. What if you had the opportunity to design a fully integrated intranet for your organization?

What features and functionality would you include?

e. Create a prototype design for your intranet.
