The following survey question raised concerns when responses suggested that about 22% of respondents thought that the Holocaust might not have occurred:
"Does it seem possible or does it seem impossible to you that the Nazi extermination of the Jews never happened?"
A subsequent poll showed that respondents were probably confused by the double negative in the wording of the question. Here is the wording used in a subsequent Roper poll:
"Does it seem possible to you that the Nazi extermination of the Jews never happened, or do you feel certain that it happened?"
Is this second version substantially less confusing? Can you write the question in a way that is clearer than both of these versions?
