In analogy with the previous problem, the file P18_05.xlsx contains monthly data since 1931 on the number of heating degree days (HDD, an index of the amount of energy to heat a home or business) in each of the United States and several combined regions. (The codes for the locations appear on the Locations sheet.) However, each row really contains the end of the previous year and the beginning of the current year. For example, row 2 contains values (all missing) for Jul-Dec of 1930 and the values (non-missing) for Jan-Jun of 1931. As in the previous problem, rearrange the data so that there are three long columns: Location (spelled out, such as Virginia or South Atlantic), Month (such as Jan-1941), and HDD. Replace all -9999 values with blanks, and make sure you get the correct data with the correct months. Then show how a pivot table can be used to create a time series graph for any selected location?
