1. Career Activity: Ask five to seven people to form a circle in the middle of the room with one or two persons to sit behind and slightly to the right or left of each of the members in the inner circle. Assign each person in the inner circle a task or maintenance function—place a folded card with the name of the role on both sides of the card so the role is visible to all. The inner circle will discuss; the outer circle will evaluate the discussants’ success. The discussion should be over a current problem of concern to the group, such as the government’s stimulus package, hiring practices, going green, or guns on college campuses. The inner group discusses for 5 to 10 minutes with each person performing their assigned role as needed. When the time is up, the outer circle will evaluate how well the inner circle played their roles and comment on which functions seemed to help the group discussion the most. If time allows, have a new set of people form the inner and outer groups and continue the discussion and evaluation process.
