3. Reducing Transportation Costs Rising fuel prices make life difficult for businesses and private individuals alike. Work in a small group to create a cluster diagram with the heading “Reducing transportation costs” at the centre. Then identify an audience that has been affected by the cost of fuel.

One possible audience would be students at your college or university; another would be a small restaurant in your area that delivers pizzas or flowers; a third would be a large business, such as a trucking company or a paper mill. You will probably be able to come up with other businesses that have suffered because of rising transportation costs.

Once you have identified the audience, list as many different approaches as possible that the selected audience could use to reduce transportation costs. Don’t reject outlandish ideas. Your job is to produce quantity, not quality. Compare your results with those of other groups. When you have finished, review your ideas and identify several possible approaches for your target audience to reduce its transportation costs.
