Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures Tourists from all over the world enjoy kayaking trips led by the friendly
Question:
Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures Tourists from all over the world enjoy kayaking trips led by the friendly guides at Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures in Juneau, Alaska. You run the office for Kay and are responsible for developing any documents that she may require. Two local companies, Ronda Foods and Jazz HeliTours, are for sale; and because Kay has been doing very well in recent years, she has decided that the time has come to expand. She wants to purchase one of the two companies. She asks you to outline a report that compares the two companies based on the criteria that Kay gives you. To complete this case study, you write an outline for the report, some of the text for the report, an introduction that includes the core sentence, and a one-page executive summary.
1. Open the file Case2_09.docx located in the Project.09 folder included with your Data Files, and then save the document as Information for Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures Report in the same folder. This document contains source material you need to outline the report.
2. Read the information in the document to learn about Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures and the two companies that Kay is considering acquiring.
3. Brainstorm topics for the comparative report and then write a core sentence. The core sentence should include two or three main topics and reference both companies: Ronda Foods and Jazz HeliTours.
4. In Word, work in Outline view to create an outline for the report. The outline should include an introduction, two or three main topics, two to four appropriate subtopics for each main topic, and a section called Conclusion and Recommendations.
5. Save the report as Comparative Report for Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures.
6. Write some of the content for the report so that the body of the report covers at least two pages. For example, you could include short descriptions of the two companies.
Invent details as required. You should include all the headings and subheadings from your outline, but you don’t need to include content for all of them.
7. Create a Cover page for the report. The report is being submitted to Paul Rose, the president of Juneau Bank. Mr. Rose will be helping to finance the acquisition of the company that Kay chooses. Include the text Submitted to Paul Rose, President, Juneau Bank in the subtitle content control. Include your name as the writer of the report and April 7, 2011 as the date.
8. Create an executive summary that describes the purpose of the report, the reason for writing, the methods of investigation used to obtain information for the report (for example, interviews with the company owners and customers, analysis of financial statements, and so on), and your recommendation. You can choose which of the two companies you think Otter Bay Kayaking Adventures should purchase.
9. Generate a table of contents following the cover page that includes the executive summary and the headings and subheadings of the report. Modify the table of contents, if necessary, so that it presents the topics attractively.
10. On the Table of Contents and Executive Summary pages, include a footer with the page number centered and in lowercase Roman numerals. The Table of Contents page will be page i and the Executive Summary page will be page ii.
11. Starting on the first page of the report text, insert your name at the left margin and the page number starting at 1 at the right margin.
12. Customize the table of contents by modifying the spacing or font size of the various TOC levels.
13. Save the report, print a copy, and then close the document.
