In your answer to this question you may invent minor details where necessary, but keep your letter reasonably brief. Remember that you are not using headed paper, and set out your letter ready for signature.

A new London symphony orchestra plans to go on tour in a foreign country in 19 - - for about three weeks, giving a number of concerts in various towns. Assume that English is well understood in the country.

EITHER

(a) As secretary to the orchestra's General Manager, prepare the draft of a letter which he will send to the Chamber of Commerce of one of the towns in which he hopes to hold a concert. He will need to find out if there is a suitable concert hall available for booking, and what the hiring charge would be. He will also want to know such things as the hotel accommodation available for members of the orchestra,

what airport facilities exist in the area, and whether there are any special local tastes in music.
OR

(b) Imagine that the above letter has been received by the Chamber of Commerce. As secretary to the official who will reply, draft a helpful and informative letter from him to the General Manager of the orchestra. Include suggestions about advance publicity, mentioning any ways in which your Chamber of Commerce might be able to assist.
