For this exercise, you need to think about the topic you selected in Chapter 1 and for which you prepared the tables in the first exercise in this chapter. Use the non-market environment table. You will need to do some research about the kind of organization you selected, and the industry in which it operates, to do this exercise. The suggested organisations in the list in Chapter 1 are fictional, so you won’t find references to them, but the topics are real, and you will find references to product tampering, sudden infant death syndrome, driving while using a mobile phone, and waste management. Make some detailed notes as you answer these questions—and keep the notes for future exercises:

1. Which of the issues you identified apply in each of the three horizons?

2. Why do they apply in those horizons?

3. In terms of what your organization does, which issue is the most important, and why?

4. Who else is interested in these issues, and why?

5. Do these issues affect other organizations? Which ones, and why?

6. What, if any, regulations have you discovered that apply to your topic? Who has an interest in those regulations?
