The head of the salesforce for a Canadian retail clothing chain is analyzing whether the company does better in some parts of the country than others. She examines a scatterplot of last year’s total Sales by Province, in which the provinces are numbered in alphabetical order, Alberta = 1, British Columbia = 2, etc. The correlation is only 0.045, from which she concludes that there are no differences in sales across the provinces.
