A proton in an atom is confined to the nucleus, which has a diameter of approximately 1 fm (1x10^-15 m). This diameter is also the uncertainty Δx in the proton’s position. Compute the uncertainty in the proton’s momentum. What is the corresponding kinetic energy of the proton? We’ll use this result in Chapter 30 when we study nuclear physics.
