Explain the different types of /ɹ/, and ask them to tell you their use of these variants in word-initial, -medial, and -final position and in initial and final clusters. Also ask about how they make the rhotic vowels if these are part of their dialect. Discuss the distribution of variants in terms of the age, sex, and regional/social background of the speakers.
